“Historical Storytelling for 6th Graders”
Camille will be teaching enrichment students in  how to tell stories and will be working with them to develop their own story about a person or event from Illinois’ past.  This unit, co-taught with the teacher and librarian, is based on curriculum developed during the 2009-10 school year, made possible with grant funds provided by the Northlands Storytelling Network.

Camille was selected to present he re-telling of an old Jack tale, “Jill and the Pigs” during this concert featuring tellers from all over Illinois.  Part of the Illinois Storytelling Festival.

“Dust Bowl Testimony”

The trying times of America’s Dust Bowl in the mid-1930′s will be presented, chautauqua style, by storyteller Camille Born.  After a narrative introduction during which the audience becomes the Senators listening to reports and testimonies, Camille takes on the persona of Helen White.  Helen is a farm wife from the Panhandle of Oklahoma who tells her story of dust, economic disaster, and determination. The presentation concludes with the audience being asked how they would vote on funding for a new agricultural program.

The 6,7, and 8th grade students at M-SJHS will be treated – and maybe tricked – with a selection of Camille’s spooky, eerie, creepy, scary stories.

“Motherhood and Mayhem”
Folk tales, narration and personal stories about moms, children, and the mayhem that sometimes erupts when they are together.

Prairie Moon

Storyteller Camille Born appears as “The Prairie Woman” at the end of this family activity program that teaches about night time on the prairie.  In period costume, the Prairie Woman will transport you back to the times of the frontier in Champaign County.  You will hear about daytime work and what nighttime was like, with a folk tale or two in between.
